MASON City, Iowa – Matt Curtis of Wayne’s Ski & Cycle is the 2022 Neal Smith Entrepreneur of the Calendar year.

The award presented by the North Iowa Place Modest Business Improvement Heart (SBDC) honors an Iowa entrepreneur who has been in small business a least of three many years and has been drastically assisted by an Iowa Compact Enterprise Advancement Center.  It is named right after very long-time Iowa Congressman Neal Smith for his many years of assistance to tiny firms.

“Matt has labored to hold Wayne’s Ski & Cycle nimble and applicable. This has incorporated exploring new business enterprise niches, creating a culture of employee purchase-in, and relocating the business enterprise spot back to downtown Mason Town,” states Brook Boehmler, Regional Director of the North Iowa Place SBDC.  “Matt is also notable for his support of his fellow entrepreneurs by way of the Pappajohn Center’s entrepreneurial programming and mentorship. Matt’s capacity to establish and meet the evolving needs of his consumers has manufactured Wayne’s Ski & Cycle a group mainstay.”

Curtis bought Wayne’s Ski & Cycle in 2004.  “I adopted the aspiration that I didn’t even know I had,” he states. “If there is 1 factor I have uncovered, it’s that you have to just take a prospect.”

This is the sixth time in 6 many years that a North Iowa entrepreneur has been recognized by America’s SBDC Iowa for their entrepreneurial excellence. Tony Halsted of Hoover’s Hatchery, Rudd, received the 2016 Neal Smith Entrepreneur of the Calendar year Award Brad and Angie Barber of Cabin Espresso Co., Obvious Lake, received in 2017 and Staci Ackerson of Shankland Insurance plan, Charles Metropolis, received in 2018. Sarah Novacek of Legacy Logistics Freight, Mason Town, was awarded the Iowa SBDC’s Deb Dalziel Girl Entrepreneur of the Yr Award in 2016 Yulia Dannen of D&S Services, Mason City, gained in 2020.
