On January 10, 1917, the earth dropped a single of the most celebrated adult men in the West, if not the complete earth.

In The Worland Grit newspaper, January 12, 1917 this short article appeared. Col.W.F. Cody Passed Absent: Denver, Colo., Jan. 10.— Colonel William Frederick Cody, “Buffalo Monthly bill,” soldier, hunter, scout and the idol of juvenile The us, died at 12:03 p.m. now at the residence of his sister right here. With Colonel Cody when demise came were his spouse (Lousia) and daughter (Irma), who hurried from Cody, Wyoming, the spouse and children house, to be at his bedside, and his sister, Mrs. L. E. Decker of Denver. The colonel had been in coma because this morning. He fought death as he has typically opposed it on the plains in the times when he was younger.

“You cannot eliminate an old scout,” he would inform his medical professionals whenever his affliction confirmed advancement. When the health care provider advised him that his everyday living was ebbing, the colonel acknowledged his fate like a stoic.

William Frederick Cody was born in Scott county, lowa, on February 20, 1846. His parents moved west and took up a claim near Leavenworth, Kansas, then a frontier Indian put up, when Cody was five several years outdated.

When Cody was 10, his father was killed and Cody commenced to function to aid support his household. His very first employment was as a courier amongst the freight wagon trains operated amongst the Missouri river and the Rocky Mountains.
