This hyperlocal startup is turning neighbourhood women of all ages into librarians, business owners

When there is hyperlocal grocery, ecommerce, logistics, and mobility—why not a hyperlocal library?

Our story commences in 2019 in the US, when Sheetal Shah found herself expending a copious sum of time at nearby general public libraries through a holiday getaway with her two youthful children. 

“The libraries enthralled us so significantly that I desired to entwine the worlds of studying and community creating among children in India, too,” she tells HerStory. Once again, Sheetal took the first stage towards encouraging young viewers by launching a committed library for her neighbourhood young children at her residence in Bengaluru. 

“When I started the very first library in my condominium intricate, I also received my son associated in it as he enjoys textbooks, and he was pleased to share them with other folks,” states Sheetal, describing how the idea caught on.

In August 2020, Archana Nandakumar—one of Sheetal’s neighbours and an early Töölö member—who would often host storytelling periods for Töölö’s younger customers, joined the business as a Co-founder and CTO. Archana handles product and technological know-how, along with community making for consumers. Chandni Ramnane, another early Töölö member, joined as the 3rd Co-founder 3 months back again. Following bootstrapping with Rs 10 lakh, Sheetal and Archana labored towards building the platform and developing the framework for physical libraries and scaling them through women micro-business owners.
