Downtown Kent was the site of magical enjoyment as Key Road Kent celebrated Wizardly Weekend, its once-a-year Harry Potter-themed event.

Magic fans of all ages went downtown Friday and Saturday to delight in costume contests, wand earning, painting courses and searching for a range of themed products, together with outdoor suppliers set up alongside Erie Street, which shut for the festival. Dozens of outlets through the downtown area made available themed menu items or goods, such as butter beer.

The celebration was after named Potterfest, but modified its title in 2018 to comply with copyright limits.

Family members-welcoming pursuits throughout the day on Saturday drew dozens of parents and small children, several dressed in costumes or themed T-shirts, or carrying themed products purchased from distributors. Festivalgoers could perform miniature golf at quite a few places in the downtown spot.

Night functions for adults included a ghost wander through downtown haunts and a costumed ball at Bell Tower Brewing Co.

Amanda Kidd and her brother, Andy Lanier, each of Kent, had been attending with their daughters, Vivi Kidd, 11, and Eliza Lanier, alongside with some family members from out of city. The family stated the competition is their most loved function, and they occur again year just after calendar year.

“All the folks are in costume, and all people is aware of who Harry Potter is,” Eliza reported.

Vivi, who has gone as Harry Potter’s “twin brother” in the past, dressed this calendar year as “Hagrid on trip” while her uncle stated he was Hagrid’s “cousin” Zagrid.

Jared and Suzy Forshey of Streetsboro were being visiting sellers with their sons, Griffin, 7, and Theo, 5. The boys have been consuming themed cake pops and practising spells with their wands.

“We study all the books to these two,” Jared Forshey mentioned. “It took a long time to examine them all.”

Sarah Wilson of Kent, who was attending with her partner and a further pal, said she savored the possibility to shop at vendors she would not ordinarily see. But she explained she wished the competition spot was larger, due to the fact some parts ended up a little bit crowded.
