Quite a few of the holidays of December — Hannukah, Introduction, Xmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s Eve (and possibly others) — have historic, cultural or spiritual meaning and connected rituals. They all have classic food items and celebrations … and accompanying wine. This calendar year, for the wine, I am wanting to Italy for some of its food friendly and good worth wines.

The montepulciano grape is planted during central Italy but is most well known in Abruzzo. It tends to be robust, with ripe fruit, strong tannins, and hints of spice, pepper and earth.
