That gives Lesotho snow in the southern hemiphere’s winters. And while cold winters aren’t uncommon in southern Africa, snow is and ski resorts are even rarer. At an altitude of 3,000 meters (9,842 toes), Afriski in Lesotho’s Maluti Mountains is Africa’s only functioning ski resort south of the equator.

“I’ve under no circumstances witnessed snow in my life,” explained Kafi Mojapelo, who traveled the shorter distance from South Africa for a snowboarding vacation she in no way thought she’d acquire. “So, this is a wonderful working experience.”
