WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) – Two U.S. lawmakers on Friday elevated issues about house rental firm Airbnb Inc’s small business actions in China’s Xinjiang region.
Senator Jeff Merkley and Agent James McGovern, two Democrats who respectively chair and co-chair the Congressional-Government Commission on China, despatched Airbnb a letter inquiring about some of its listings in Xinjiang and other problems.
China denies abuses in Xinjiang, but the U.S. govt and lots of rights groups say Beijing is carrying out genocide there.
Airbnb and the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not instantly react to requests for remark.
