Time journey topic revs up hottest edition of Xmas Revels

English pub George & Dragon and its new American house owners strategy to relaunch their annual Christmas carol sing-along immediately after the pandemic canceled the 2020 edition. This wild, odd and wonderful storyline underpins the 51st yearly “Christmas Revels,” which returns to Harvard’s Sanders Theater Dec. 17-29.

“English pubs have these caroling traditions that go back again into record, that go back to when Handel was composing,” Revels artistic director Paddy Swanson instructed the Herald. “I imagined a ripple by way of the place/time continuum arrived at (a 17th-century) revels business office in which they would say, ‘Hmm, a little something is heading on, we will have to make a site take a look at and do an audit on how items are becoming taken care of in the existing day.’ ”

A Cambridge-based mostly arts group that champions folk music, dance, and traditions from all over the world, the Revels’ signature production aims to provide a minor mild and superior cheer into winter’s darkest times.
