This week on the GeekWire Podcast, we play highlights and offer our feelings on the the latest earnings calls of Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet, seeking to better understand what’s next for the tech overall economy.
A couple of my feelings immediately after listening to all of the calls past 7 days:
- “Uncertainty” is the view word. Significant tech organizations are altering to the potential for a recession, with task cuts and other belt-tightening moves, but typically aren’t seeing the severe realities of an genuine downturn.
- 1 exception is the marketing market, where by a pullback in internet marketing paying was obvious for firms together with Microsoft and Alphabet, which saw slower development than anticipated and for Fb mother or father corporation Meta, which posted its very first-at any time profits decline for the quarter. Amazon is faring better than most in this regard.
- Potentially more than ever, lots of of the big tech CEOs are in full “pitch” method on these ostensibly degree-headed monetary phone calls, touting their most recent initiatives as if they were being speaking at a product or service launch celebration, and seeking to persuade investors that just about every threat to their company is truly an chance.
That final craze created me want they would use a traditional “SWOT” evaluation on these phone calls, soberly assessing their strengths, weaknesses, options and threats in the fashion that many company leaders discovered in small business college.
But as my colleague John Prepare dinner points out in reaction, the mantra that several CEOs stick to is Ab muscles: “Always Be Marketing.”
