SAN ANTONIO – Bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill are just some of the fish currently being caught in the San Antonio River the two north and south of downtown.
Some anglers have even reeled in substantial fish in the heart of the environment-well-known River Stroll by itself.
Hoping to avoid regrettable encounters concerning anglers and other river guests, KSAT sought the information of the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) for most effective tactics on city fishing.
Mike Gramley, with SARA, spends his times endorsing spots like Davis Lake, a vast place in the SA river formed by Espada dam on the Mission Reach of the river.
The park spot, south of downtown, characteristics picnic tables, trails and riverside docks tailor-built for fishing.
Gramley claims, “that’s one of the factors I hear a lot when I provide teams out here. Mike, I didn’t know this was below. And I was like, well, it’s right here and it is for you. Appear out and enjoy it.”
He states another location that appeals to anglers on the San Antonio River is just north of downtown along the river’s Museum Reach.

KSAT connected with some fishermen who’ve caught sizeable largemouth bass in the location.
A single kayak fisherman, Clint Hopkins, states he caught a massive bass in the center of downtown but it transpired in December of 2020, mid-pandemic.
The river authority asks kayak anglers, in certain, to system forward.
“You’re really not able to place your kayak in downtown. There is an prospect by way of Mission Experience excursions to do kayak rentals. And they do operate some kayaks there in the early morning time but which is really structured. And even if you are likely to deliver your personal kayak, you nevertheless have to pay back a charge to get in the h2o there. And they have to be out at a particular time since there is barge traffic in that location,” Gramley defined.
He reminds all river anglers to be courteous to other folks, have a legitimate fishing license and leave no trace of your exercise by cleansing up your spot.
Most importantly, the river authority asks anglers to abide by park police steering.
