U.S. Customs and Border Patrol brokers are not monkeying about when it will come to smuggling issues across the border.

Agents located four undeclared spider monkeys in a duffle bag previous week.

The lady attempted to get through customs at the Progreso Intercontinental Bridge when officers conducting a secondary look for of her 2017 Jeep Patriot identified the spider monkeys in a duffle bag.

“Whilst conducting their inspections, our officers will often encounter a myriad of prohibited agriculture merchandise,” explained Port Director Walter Weaver, Port of Progreso. “At times these encounters yield concealed unique animals, such as in this scenario.”

Spider monkeys are considered New Earth monkeys which are observed in tropical forests of Central and South The us, like southern Mexico, and are viewed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

The female, who was a U.S. citizen, was fined and the monkeys returned to Mexico.
