Belton New Tech Significant Faculty @ Waskow is continuing to honor its namesake, Capt. Henry Waskow, with the before long-to-be stand-by itself campus opting for pink and purple as its formal shades.
“New Tech is named soon after Capt. Henry Waskow, a Belton native and Purple Coronary heart recipient who fought and died in Environment War II (through the fight for San Pietro),” Principal Kim Winters said in a news release. “Waskow’s legacy was mostly described by his determination to assisting others and dedicating his lifestyle to getting a constructive effects on those people he led, his community and his region.”
Winters highlighted how purple and purple had been favored for its relationship to Waskow and the Purple Coronary heart he earned with the U.S. Army.
“We tossed all over a ton of suggestions, but the Purple Coronary heart and the meaning driving it is just this sort of a major aspect of who we are as a campus local community. We kept coming back to that,” she mentioned. “Wednesday (Dec. 15) for case in point, is our seventh yearly Purple Heart Servant Management Day wherever our whole college community will finish assistance tasks to honor Capt. Waskow’s memory.”
Belton New Tech also will tie a piece of its historical past to Harris Large University — Belton’s former segregated campus in Belton. Like Harris Substantial School, Belton New Tech Large Faculty mascot will be the Dragons.
“Our learners and employees especially appreciated the connection to Harris Large University and how dragons are affiliated with creativity and creative imagination,” Winters reported. “It feels suitable on a lot of stages.”
Belton ISD Superintendent Matt Smith echoed that sentiment.
“I’m happy of the way our New Tech management sought university student and team voice in this course of action,” he said. “The recommendations they introduced forward have been thoughtful and honoring of the school’s namesake and the area’s background. I know I’m excited to have on my crimson and purple equipment and be the major Dragon fan there is.”
