SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — There are a couple far more months of summer family vacation left and supporters of the John J. Wright Academic and Cultural Heart museum hope that family members will deliver their children to master about the background of segregated instruction in Spotsylvania County.

“This really should be on just about every kids’ checklist for summer months trip,” said Mo Petway, president of the Spotsylvania NAACP and a regional pastor. “This museum is continue to vital to assure that we keep in mind the John J. Wright College for a lengthy time. This is the history of the people of Spotsylvania County.”

The heart, positioned off Courthouse Highway, was developed in 1952 and was the only community high faculty for Black citizens of Spotsylvania. The 1952 setting up changed older structures that experienced been educating Black college students considering the fact that 1913.

Initial named the Snell Coaching University, the university was renamed in 1940 for John J. Wright, an instruction advocate who led the Spotsylvania Sunday College Union—the coalition of 12 African American churches that initial structured in 1905 to set up a secondary faculty for black young children.
