Maryland little enterprise operator faces twin challenges of COVID, cancer

Kenia Garcia found out her leukemia analysis immediately after reopening her Rockville reward store, following a nine-month shutdown amid 2020 pandemic restrictions.

The pandemic has been tough on a lot of of the D.C. region’s smaller companies, but the owner of a Rockville, Maryland, reward shop has double the obstacle since she’s been diagnosed with cancer.

“One issue occurred … I got a most cancers analysis in August, and I had to offer with the pandemic and also with the illness,” Kenia Garcia reported. “But now I’m listed here, solid and I’ll preserve going.”



Garcia is the proprietor of Mother nature by Trejok, a retailer that includes collectibles, beautiful handbags, sneakers and dwelling furnishings.

Garcia found her leukemia diagnosis right after reopening her Rockville gift store, subsequent a nine-month shutdown amid 2020 pandemic limitations.

She relied on spouse and children members to tend the store although hospitalized, but refused to be idle for the duration of her disease.

“I was undertaking the social media from the healthcare facility, now I feel improved and the health practitioner states I will be very good to do the job typical several hours in January,” Garcia explained.

Garcia named the present shop in honor of her grandmother — who she recalls was a woman of wonderful flavor.

“Trejok is the previous title of my grandma. She was the man or woman who inspires me,” explained Garcia, recalling the stylish tables that her grandmother would established just about every day for afternoon tea. “And if you go to my shop you are heading to see her spirit.”

The store delivers personalized merchandise, and the artfully-intended purses are designed in Italy.

Garcia explained medical professionals told her she has a 90% opportunity of beating cancer with chemotherapy, which she is currently undergoing.

Despite the twin worries of COVID and cancer, the Rockville small businesswoman maintains a favourable outlook and offers holiday needs.

“I hope most people gets no matter what they are seeking for, but the major matter I want for the persons is wellbeing and peace and a good deal of hope for the long run,” Garcia mentioned.
