WASHINGTON (AP) — A male drove his car or truck into a barricade around the U.S. Capitol early Sunday and then commenced firing gunshots in the air right before fatally taking pictures himself, in accordance to law enforcement, who reported he did not appear to be to be targeting any member of Congress.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. at a auto barricade set at East Capitol Avenue NE and 2nd Avenue SE in Washington.

It will come at a time when regulation enforcement authorities across the state are facing an increasing range of threats and federal officials have warned about the possible of violent attacks on federal government buildings in the times given that the FBI’s search of previous President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

The attack is reminiscent of an incident when a male drove a car into two Capitol Law enforcement officers at a checkpoint in April 2021, killing an 18-year veteran of the drive.
