Re “Heavy-responsibility homework” (Nov. 6): There was an obscene picture on the front webpage of the U-T on Saturday. It confirmed 7 impressionable center school college students, boys and ladies, climbing all about a mild-armored car or truck with a huge machine gun perched on best.
They surface to be getting a wonderful time underneath the instruction of a Marine tutorial. Why is this obscene? It is obscene that serious killing equipment like this are rolled out for the young children to see and touted as great fun and on the par with Legoland or Disneyland.
It is obscene since displays and situations like this are the commencing of an endless but refined system to glorify and justify countless war employing thrilling products like this.
Though many of these intense weapons of war may well be necessary by our fine brothers and sisters in arms when we choose to invade other nations around the world, it is time to stop applying them as props and enjoyment reveals for impressionable youngsters.
