Sgt. Roman Altenbach of the Huntington Beach front Police Department posed on the ice with a single leg up, hunting self-confident at the Surf Town Wintertime Wonderland ice skating rink Wednesday afternoon at Pier Plaza.

Self-assured, perhaps, but …

“That was not graceful,” Altenbach admitted during a crack. “But nearly anything like this is enjoyable. It’s a different way to interact.”

The section held a “Skate With HBPD” event and Altenbach was just one of two officers to skate in uniform with the civilians. Lt. Brian Smith was the other.

The division also place up an info tent outside the house the entrance to the Winter Wonderland outside ice skating rink, which operates as a result of Jan. 2.

Phillip Norris of Cypress, who came to the rink with his spouse and two kids but was unaware beforehand of the celebration, reported he appreciated skating with the officers.

“I assume it is magnificent that the cops are out listed here joining in the exciting and making on their own known all-around listed here,” Norris stated. “It’s type of entertaining. The kids can start off to see that cops are common men and women, you know? They are not just generally in a cop motor vehicle and chasing men and women down they’re part of the local community.”

Smith claimed it was superior to be out there enjoying the year with the citizens. He extra that it was a great way to crack the ice, and he supposed the pun.

Component of his responsibilities Wednesday provided insuring that HBPD’s general public details officer, Jennifer Carey, did not tumble around as she went around the ice.

Carey held on to Smith for dear existence at initial. Later, he pushed her all-around in a plastic sled formed like a seal.

“She did improved than she’ll give herself credit for,” Smith stated with a smile….
