TikTok is certainly a unique animal in the grand scheme of things, slightly different than your average run-of-the-mill social media platform. With Instagram and its many filters dominating the social sphere for the better part of a decade, this creative little successor to Vine has taken on a life of its own. Showcasing a range of different personalities and given rise to several unconventional stars as a result.
Leigh McClendon is one of these unconventional success stories, as an elementary school teacher by day and a TikTok sensation by night he’s gone to prove that you don’t need to be a star to rise to infamy. His videos resemble as more of a sketch style format, using his vast experience in the education field to create funny and relatable content that has struck a chord with audiences around the world.
Cultivating over 1 million followers in his time on the site, he has also started branching out into comedic and honest product reviews that have opened a potential new revenue stream for the star by way of product endorsements – at this time though he’s a lone ranger and looking to keep it that way, at least for the time being.
His story goes to show the potential that the social media landscape still has to create something out of nothing, to fully form a status and position in the worldwide space that didn’t take a team of people working behind the scenes to achieve. While some of the older models are dying off with Instagram and Facebook still dominating but not really innovating, new platforms like TikTok and Twitch are starting to get more unorthodox faces on more screens than ever before.
Where Leigh goes next, who knows – but his comedic prowess is not going anywhere anytime soon, his videos are still dominating the market and he has built quite the band of loyal followers.
He still works during the day full-time and is a dedicated teacher at that, with his passion and zeal for the system being quite apparent in his wholesome and sometimes eye-opening sketches.
