Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), a member of the Committee on Health and fitness, Education and learning, Labor and Pensions, is urging the Division of Labor to check and control how organizations are making use of invasive technological know-how to watch their staff throughout work hours.

In a letter addressed to Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, Casey named for the company to push for a lot more oversight, accountability and transparency on how these surveillance technologies are currently being applied in the office and how they are impacting workers’ privateness.

  • “The implementation of novel systems to observe, watch, control and self-discipline staff is developing due to an imbalance of ability in the office and a lack of lawful protections or regulatory limitations on these behaviors,” Casey stated in the letter.
  • “Without oversight, additional and much more intrusive systems will be carried out in the place of work,” he added.

Casey shown illustrations of how workers are continually monitored and in some cases punished or fired for small productivity scores that are dependent on algorithms and automatic programs which have “little or no meaningful human oversight.”
