Ahead of her retirement at the end of this calendar year, Mecklenburg County Public Overall health Director Gibbie Harris was awarded North Carolina’s best honor, The Buy of the Prolonged Leaf Pine, for her commitment to serving the community by her work in Public Overall health more than the past four decades.  

Designed in 1963, this honor is presented by the governor to individuals who have produced substantial contributions to the Point out and their communities for exemplary support and excellent accomplishments. 

For far more than 45 many years, Harris has supported the General public Health desires of inhabitants in Buncombe, Wake, Caldwell and Mecklenburg counties. She joined Mecklenburg County as health director in 2017 and has put in the earlier 4 decades leading a section of over 900 experienceds in delivering entry to providers ranging from immunizations and STD screening to WIC. Harris has also been instrumental in providing professional oversight to new initiatives designed to make improvements to health results for our most vulnerable inhabitants through courses like “Getting to Zero Mecklenburg” and efforts to strengthen food stuff access. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Harris worked alongside her colleagues in the County and across the Point out to preserve County residents and staff members safe and informed as very well as serving as a resource for County leadership, helping navigate the intricacies of the pandemic world.
