Expect large snow, vacation delays this weekend

As a great deal as three toes of snow could fall in areas of Siskiyou County this weekend.

Average snow will fall in Mount Shasta, McCloud and Dunsmuir on Saturday, Keene mentioned. Those locations will then be hit hardest by heavy snow on Sunday and Monday right before the storm tapers off on Tuesday. 

A full of one to three feet of snow will fall in Mount Shasta — most from Saturday night time into Sunday morning, and yet again from Sunday evening into Monday, Keene explained.

Temperatures in a lot of places throughout the county will fall below freezing during the night.

• In Yreka, Weed and Dunsmuir: Daytime temperatures will reach the mid- to higher 30s , but will fall into the 20s at night time. Be expecting gentle gusty winds off and on all through the week — the worst on Saturday and some wind on Monday.

Motorists need to get ready for substantial journey impacts alongside major roadways like I-5, Highway 89 and 97, according to a NWS briefing Wednesday. Expect slick streets and weighty damp snowfall, with moderate to significant snow at big passes together I-5 and Freeway 140. 

Saturday night will likely convey the worst climate for travel on roadways close to Weed, Keene mentioned. Sturdy gusty winds mixed with falling snow could make visibility “truly bad.”

Although meteorologists expect the worst of the storm to hit  the mountains and the Mount Shasta and Weed parts, flurries could tumble at reduce elevations, as well, the NWS claimed. If it does fall, it will not possible stick.
