Today, we get to know the founder and CEO of the Home Warranty company, David Seruya! David Seruya started working even before he finished college, and soon after, he founded his first home warranty company with a school friend.
Although his journey was filled with both ups and downs, he’s long since found a stable place for himself as a respectable business leader and entrepreneur in the home warranty industry.
Below, we’ve asked David about some of his experiences and beliefs in hopes of inspiring our readers to strive forward as he did in the past!
David Seruya: If I can only choose one word, then it would have to be persevering, I think. The process of getting to where I am today has been quite difficult, and I ran into a lot of obstacles and dead-end streets. However, because I knew that just laying down and not doing anything would only make me a true failure, I never gave up — making my story one of perseverance.
David Seruya: I’m the CEO of the home warranty company called ServicePlus.
If I were to describe what kind of work we do in one sentence, it would be that we’re protecting homes and families with excellent service. We’ve been live since 2016, and have been providing affordable and reliable home warranty plans ever since. With one of our home warranties, you can protect the expensive appliances and systems in your home and be at peace knowing that we’ve got your back.
David Seruya: Before I went into home warranty, I was a follower outwardly by working for other people. But I had always considered myself a leader and was unwilling to remain as a follower for long. So, when my friend offered a business partnership when I was 25, I eagerly dived into the project in order to make a name for myself.
David Seruya: I’ve always wanted to be both a successful business owner and father. For me, there was no separating the two. After all, I grew up with great parents. Both of them supported my endeavors. My father Ronnie, to be more specific, was the kind of man that would toil day in and day out but still spare a bit of his precious time spending time with me when I was young. Never once did he treat his family unfairly.
David Seruya: I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist, so it’s natural for me to manage my time without much trouble. It’s not something that I work on specifically. If there’s anything to share, it would be that I take the time to personally understand all aspects of the business to stay informed and keep everything straight in my head.
David Seruya: I intend to keep experimenting with new methods for improving our services. That’s our golden goose at ServicePlus — which is probably obvious in the name, ha! But, yes. At our company, I want us to always be improving in every way, but our service has always been our priority, as it is what allows our customers to leave the running of their home’s appliances and systems to us with peace of mind.
David Seruya: I think for most people, the most horrifying thing is business closure. However, after having suffered through my first ever business shutting down and learning from my mistakes, I’m more afraid of not making personal progress and limiting our growth.
David Seruya: I spend most of my weekdays working and also work occasionally during the weekends.
However, just like my father did when I was younger, I reserve the rest of my time for my family. This means that, during family dinners and most weekends, I shut myself away from work by turning off emails and text messages on my business devices to make sure that I’m focusing on my personal matters and not on anything else.
David Seruya: No problem! And, of course, I would! Rather than saving it, I would spend that money on improving my business or starting up a side business if the former is not applicable. I’m a working man, and I intend to continue working so that my family will continue to live well in the future. Plus, I’m the kind of person that would feel antsy not doing anything.
So, even if I didn’t spend that money on improving my business, I would prefer to spend a chunk of it on vacations and things for spoiling my family over choosing to live off it for the rest of my life.
