Vacation nurses have been in substantial need as hospitals across the place deal with surge immediately after surge of COVID-19 and battle with staffing shortages, but some nurses say the latest healthcare system is “unsustainable.”

As a usually means to offer with employees shortages, hospitals are engaging vacation nurses with higher-having to pay contracts. In some areas, vacation nurses are building far more than doctors. 

“The medical center that I’m functioning in appropriate now was so small staffed and so critically confused that I am making extra funds than the surgeons,” Tayler Oakes, a vacation nurse, told Insider. 

But Oakes said this system is unsustainable. She instructed Insider that although she enjoys to acquire care of individuals, she’s burnt out and the only matter trying to keep her in her bedside part at the moment is the pay back. 

“I believe the funds, this is holding a great deal of us in the industry, which is also super concerning lead to which is not sustainable at all,” she reported.
