SAN DIEGO — On the street, they are shunned, exploited and feared.
But within a nondescript crimson brick making in downtown San Diego, homeless people with intense mental sicknesses have located a sanctuary.
“The folks below have been extremely sane and variety,” explained a girl named Ness, who wore grey trousers with a matching sweater as she sat quietly at a desk with a Bible marked with highlights.
“This is a neat area to arrive. It is sort of regular, wherever you can sit and relaxation your feet and have coffee. With their compassions for other folks, you can feel it. It’d be like if your spouse and children is close to.”
Ness was at the Relationship 2 Local community clubhouse operated by the Countrywide Alliance on Mental Health issues, wherever she normally spends her days to uncover respite from the chaotic earth outside the house on 16th Street, a neighborhood dense with sidewalk encampments and drug use.
