STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Louis R. Miller, affectionately recognized as “Lou” and respectfully acknowledged as “Mister Miller” by his colleagues and mentees, was a passionate mentor for numerous Staten Island business professionals.

“Lou Miller was silent. He wasn’t pushy, and he understood how to hear. He did not explain to you what to do. Rather, he encouraged you to do what was the right thing,” reported John J. Amodio, who is happy to phone the previous community activist his mentor.

In 1994, Miller wished to figure out the accomplishments of little company gurus and display them off as job models to some others. He teamed with the Organization Education and learning Advancement Council (BEDC) at the Faculty of Staten Island, Willowbrook, to salute these leaders. The business was chaired and structured by Amodio.

However, Miller passed away through the organizing stages of the awards ceremony.

Amodio recalled contemplating that the ideal way to honor Miller’s legacy was naming the recognition the “Louis R. Miller Company Leadership Award.”

To ensure deserving candidates are selected annually, Amodio has remained a committee member of the award considering that its inception, carrying on the legacy of Lou Miller.

“Lou uncovered me when I started out operating at Community Nationwide Bank. We begun speaking a very little bit, and it introduced me out of my shell. I turn out to be additional involved with points in the neighborhood, and he launched me to a lot of people who became an impact on me,” recalled Amodio. “He then continued to guideline me as I went by way of Local community National Bank. When I essential help educating my employees on many issues, I requested if he would be ready to discuss and mentor people on my employees. This way, they have been ready to deal with me, and I would be superior able to deal with them as we moved the financial institution forward.”

And now, following honoring over 275 honorees spanning 28 yrs, the award comes total circle — as Amodio is acquiring a Louis R. Miller Enterprise Management Award, which he will get as a “founder” of the awards method.
