BAI rejects criticism about Ivana Bacik showing up in RTÉ life style programme ahead of by-election

A Complaint BY the basic secretary of Fantastic Gael versus the inclusion of Labour’s Ivana Bacik in a RTÉ television life style programme times before the Dublin Bay South by-election has been rejected by the Broadcasting Authority of Eire.

First-time TD Bacik was elected in July this year right after topping the poll at the by-election.

Carroll thought the only “acceptable recompense” would be to offer similar coverage to other candidates, the report explained. 

The BAI explained that RTÉ stated the airing of this episode of National Treasures featuring Bacik was an “inadvertent mistake and ought to not have happened”. 

RTÉ advised the BAI that its election steering group became informed of the broadcast of the programme inside of minutes of it airing and “took action” to get rid of it from the RTÉ Participant and RTÉ +1 to limit its availability.

The broadcaster then commissioned an extended constituency report on the by-election to air on Primary Time on 6 July.
