ISLIP, N.Y. — There is a heated fight on Prolonged Island about Sloth Encounters LI.

The small business provides a so-called “just one-of-a-variety expertise,” allowing just one-on-1 holding and feeding of the tiny mammals.

Animal expert Larry Wallach, along with traders, opened Sloth Encounters LI in Hauppauge this spring, delighting enthusiasts.

“My organization is to educate the general public on wildlife. If you go to any other sloth come across it is nowhere near this,” Wallach stated. “Humidity, state-of-the-art heaters, enclosures. They have tons of area.”

But animal legal rights advocates, led by anthrozoologist John Di Leonardo demand Islip shut him down.

“Sloth Encounters is training young children all the wrong lessons that animals are ours to dominate and to retain captive future to an ice cream shop on Route 347. These animals belong in Costa Rica or a trustworthy sanctuary,” DiLeonardo explained.

They introduced a stack of USDA violations for Wallach, courting back a long time, and a petition just after the small business was cited for fire code violations.
