Erin, the Detroit Zoo’s oldest lion, has died, officers introduced this week.

The woman lion was euthanized Wednesday adhering to “ongoing decline in her mobility and affliction,” the zoo mentioned in a statement on Twitter. 

“Approximated to be 20 decades previous, Erin lived much extended than wild lions normally do,” they explained. “She showed signs of highly developed age for many yrs, and animal care employees monitored her intently to ensure her comfort and very well-remaining.”

Erin was the oldest in the Royal Oak zoo’s lion pride.

She arrived there in 2009 just after staying rescued from a Kansas junkyard, officers stated.

“In her prime, Erin was a spunky cat who liked a good operate in the lawn, and she was an amazing companion to Simba,” said Betsie Meister, related curator of mammals.  “You could frequently find her on the heated rock or lounging in the sunshine.”
